The Craig-burn Flitting it did them ahae croun
There were men, horses and cairts frae the Parish ah round,
They flitted for days when the rain didna fa,
But the Craig-burn flitting was the best o’ them ah.
There was young Willie Ward, Bob and Doug Steele,
And John frae Catlowdy, ye ah ken them weel.
There was George Richardson an Joss in his turn
John Storey frae the Rigg, they were ah at Craig-burn.
There was Bob Rodan and young Jimmy Hill
And there was Joe Wylie, we ah his good skill,
Helped wi the Flitting, Bob Dixon an’ ah,
For the Craig-burn Flitting was the best o’ them ah.
There was Billie frae Beyond-the-Moss and Jimmy frae Black-House
And there was Jimmy Lawson, sae leish and sae douse
And John frae the Wood, Dick Kennedy an’ ah
For the Craig-burn Flitting was the best o’ them ah.
There’s one Allan Irving, he comes frae Trough Head.
Wi Wattie Nichol he ran ah his speed
To help wi the cattle, Synd-Hill an’ ah
But the Craig-burn Flitting was King o’ them ah.
Od seaks, but we menna forget Lizzie Hill
also Betsy and Mary, they did them weel fill
Wi beef and good ceakes, Mrs Richardson helped an ah
For the Craig-burn Flitting was the best o’ them ah
There was Jimmy and John, and Willie sae kine
They treat the men ah wi whisky and the women wi wine
It made them ah Talkie and some like to fa’
But the Craig-burn Flitting was the best o’ them ah
Now they live sae canty, up at Dyke Head
Inviting ah the parish to visit them wi speed.
They live high up and we hope they don’t fa,
But the Craig-burn flitting was King o’ them ah.
